Schengen Travel Insurance
Mandatory for the visa application — must cover at least €30,000 for medical emergencies and repatriation, valid across the whole Schengen area for your full trip duration.
minCoverage: €30,000
- Buy insurance before applying for your visa — the policy is a required document
Long-Stay / Resident Insurance
Once resident, you'll typically move to mandatory Belgian health insurance (mutualité/ziekenfonds, e.g. via providers such as Mutualités Chrétiennes/CM, Solidaris or Partenamut) rather than travel insurance.
- 1Register with the municipality to get a national registry number
- 2Choose and enrol with a recognised mutualité/ziekenfonds
- 3Your employer or university can usually recommend a provider
- Enrolment is compulsory for residents, not optional — do it soon after registering with your commune
