Currency Exchange
Belgium uses the Euro (EUR). Exchange bureaus are available at the airport and city centres, though rates are often better via ATM withdrawal.
- Avoid airport exchange counters for large amounts — rates are usually worse than ATMs or banks
ATMs & Cards
Contactless debit/credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) are widely accepted across Belgium, including on public transport.
- Notify your Indian bank before travel to avoid card blocks
- Carry a small amount of cash for smaller shops or markets
International Cards
Forex/travel cards can help avoid repeated foreign transaction fees.
- Compare foreign transaction fees between your Indian bank and a dedicated forex card before travel
Banking
See the Working in Belgium section for guidance on opening a Belgian bank account as a resident.
